The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship is delivered over three years, providing you with practical, on the job training and classroom-based instruction.

About the apprenticeship
Joining the team in the Service Department, you’ll learn on the job and through classroom-based learning, become an HGV Technician over the course of three years.
During your apprenticeship, you’ll be instructed by the Technicians in your team who will also help and support you to learn. You’ll also get invaluable insight into a variety of roles and functions across our wider UK and international business – there’s a lot going on here and so much to learn!
Life as an apprentice
Over three years, you’ll be supported and guided to become a qualified HGV Technician.
There’s a lot to take in and so you’ll find every day is different. The apprenticeship, while structured, can be flexibly tailored to take into account your strengths and what you need to learn. So while the pace can be fast, you’ll never be out of your depth.
You’ll learn by working on live projects and tasks in a real work environment, you’ll be given responsibility and you’ll be encouraged to identify new challenges and opportunities for learning.
Throughout, your colleagues and manager will help and support you to achieve your goals and find new ones.
Life as an apprentice here is hands on – it’s the best way to learn. Add the fact that people here are experts in their areas and new products are developed frequently, and there’ll be a lot to take in. Especially in your first few months.
Tasks could include carrying out steam cleans, working in production or carrying out housekeeping (admin, etc). Whatever the task at hand, this on-the-job training will be supported by structured learning to help you progress.

Our Technician teams are also very sociable and you’ll find they like to get together outside of work too.
Our approach to learning
You’ll spend most of your time learning from and with your team and manager. This is enhanced by classroom-based learning at college.
These studies are undertaken at a college, which typically can be for a week at a time every few months. Over the year, you’ll attend four blocks, studying the topics for each assignment and providing examples of tasks completed in the workplace. All contribute towards your qualification.
As your skills and knowledge grow, you’ll be given more challenging tasks and responsibility.
Career pathways
Completing the apprenticeship successfully and demonstrating further potential means you could be offered a full-time job with competitive salary.
You could also choose to achieve another qualification with MAN’s support while you work full-time.

We work with Gower College in Swansea to offer a Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship. Working with light commercial vehicles, this comprehensive course provides the necessary theoretical knowledge, practical skills and industry-specific training to prepare you for a successful career in the automotive industry.

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 1/Level 2 - Diploma Overview
This two-year course will give you an understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used on modern light vehicles. The assessment methods used include the completion of practical tasks, assignments and online examinations. You will also develop your Mathematics, English Language and digital literacy skills.

Our approach to learning – course delivery
You’ll spend most of your time learning from and with your team and manager. This is enhanced by classroom-based learning at college.
The course is delivered through practical demonstrations which are supported with realistic working tasks, where the emphasis is on you demonstrating the required skills. Underpinning knowledge for each unit is given via classroom-based mode of delivery, where you are encouraged to participate in a range of learner centred activities.
Learners are assessed in a variety of ways including practical activities, multi-choice online examinations and participation in portfolio and assignment work.
Career pathways
Completing the apprenticeship successfully and demonstrating further potential means you could be offered a full-time job with competitive salary.
You could also choose to work towards another qualification, with progression to higher levels of education and training which can provide additional knowledge and skills necessary for roles as supervisory technicians or managers.

Life as an apprentice
Every day is different here with many opportunities to learn. You might be developing your customer service skills by selling parts to customers on the front counter, via email or over the phone. You might also be supplying your technician colleagues with parts that they fit in the workshop. We also deal with old units, processing returned parts, warranties and R&M. There are also van deliveries, stock control and warehouse maintenance to manage.
There’s much to learn and always opportunities to get involved with a variety of local, regional and national projects.
Our approach to learning
This is very much a hands-on apprenticeship with in-house learning supported and enabled by your experienced colleagues. Learning at your own pace, you’ll also be challenged to improve and reach your potential as you progress.
You’ll also benefit from online and classroom-based training courses that help you to learn about specific subjects such as MAN, our products, your job description and role types.

Remit Group is MAN Truck and Bus UK’s national training provider
MAN Truck and Bus UK has appointed national training provider, Remit Group, to deliver its apprenticeship programmes nationally.
To support the development of the MAN Apprenticeship Academy, Remit Group will deliver all technical and non-technical apprenticeship programmes across its Truck Centres and Service Centres within the MAN UK Network.
The MAN UK Apprenticeship programme is one of the largest in the commercial vehicle industry and continues to generate high quality staff for the UK MAN dealer network. The Academy has seen more than 2,000 apprentices graduate since it was established in 1996.
Under this new partnership, Apprentices recruited and trained within the MAN Apprenticeship Academy will have a choice of programme and will work towards achieving the Heavy Vehicle Technician Standard Level 3, the Business and Administration Level 3, the Parts Controller Level 2 or Sales Executive Level 3.
Delivery of the technical apprenticeships will be a combination of theoretical and practical learning, with technical skills honed at Remit’s brand new Automotive Academy in Derby. All apprenticeships within the MAN Apprenticeship Academy will include work-based, practical experience supported by Remit’s Development Coaches and mentors from within the MAN Retail network.
